Yellowstone, Day 2

It was farewell to Katie and Co this morning and back to Yellowstone by a different route. Absolutely baltic weather on this, the first official day of Summer, and Ma and Pa are a little worried they will have to wear all the clothes they packed to get through the day. More snow fell. Of course it did. But in a strange way, it made the marvellous landscape all the more marvellous.

First up was the ‘Paintpots’: bubbling, gurgling, slurping mud pools of all colours.

Then the star of the day, ‘Old Faithful’, a geyser that explodes with a huge plume of boiling water and steam every hour or so. So good we watched it twice because we’d hardly believed it the first time. And it’s been doing this for hundreds of thousands of years.

Then lunch was munched in an old wooden hotel, equally strange and striking in its own way.

Another drive southwards took us past then over the Grand Teton mountains to our home for the night, Moose Lodge Creek Ranch. Yes, read that again. And see the picture for proof. But enjoy also the menfolk anticipating the vast pizza served up for tea. What larks.
